Day 1 Arrival Kuching
Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport, meet the driver for a transfer to the hotel. Spend the rest of the day free at leisure.
Day 2 Kuching - Batang Ai
Pick up in the morning from the hotel for a drive to the Batang Ai Reservoir. Approximately 2 hours after Kuching lies the Lachau Bazaar, where early lunch is served at a local coffee shop in this small native market town. Continue further up north on the Pan-Borneo highway and reach the Batang Ai Hydrolake around 1400hrs. Hop on the longboat that awaits at the jetty for a 2 hour upriver trip to a longhouse in the middle of the jungle. Arrive at the longhouse at around 1530hrs, depending on the river and weather conditions. Upon arrival, settle into the lodge and have dinner at the common area. After dinner, join your guide for a visit to the longhouse to spend some time with the Iban people. Get to know about the local community; learn about their culture and try out the home made rice wine. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3 Batang Ai
After an early breakfast in the lodge, depart at 0630hrs and follow one of the trails behind the longhouse. The exact trail that is selected will be based on most recent sightings of orangutans and nests. You will discuss with your guide what the best trails could be. Trekking will take approximately 4 to 5 hours before returning to the lodge for lunch. Spend time free at own leisure after lunch to read a book, play a game, or have a dip in the clear river below the lodge. Around 1600hrs, depart on another jungle walk near the lodge searching for orangutans and nests along the way. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4 Batang Ai
After an early breakfast, depart the lodge at 0630 for a trek along the trails around the hills in the area. Keep your eyes and ears open for orangutans and other animals like hornbills, macaque monkeys and a wide array of birds. Even though the actual orangutans are only occasionally spotted, their nests are quite often seen along the jungle trails. Return to the lodge for lunch around 1300hrs. After lunch, proceed upriver by longboat to a scenic waterfall. Along the way, the boatman might show his skills with the Iban throw net. Arrive at the waterfall and relax, take a dip and let the small fish nibble on your feet. Retrace a part of the journey back by longboat until a junction in the river. Continue up the other river towards the jungle camp. Settle in at the camp and relax. Orangutans are quite often spotted in this area, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons. After dinner, go for a short night walk or relax at the jungle camp. Spend the night at the jungle camp.
Day 5 Batang Ai
After breakfast, start trekking with the guide on one of the many trails in this area, searching for wildlife and especially orangutans. Return to the jungle camp for lunch. Relax in the afternoon and go for a swim in the clean and clear jungle river a few meters away from the lodge. Spend some time with the guide and locals collecting jungle ferns and bamboo shoots to be used for dinner. In the late afternoon, follow the guide on more jungle trails. Keep your eyes up and try to spot movement in the canopy of the tall trees. Before darkness sets, return back to the jungle camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Batang Ai - Kuching
Breakfast is served at the jungle camp. At 0830hrs, proceed downriver to the Batang Ai Jetty. Board the van at around 1100hrs for the overland travel back to Kuching. Lunch is served at a local coffee shop along the way. Arrive at the hotel in Kuching at approximately 1700hrs.
Day 7 Kuching - Semenggoh Orangutan - Miri
Pick up from the hotel for a 30-minute drive to Semenggoh, upon arrival continue on a brief hike through dipterocarp forest to reach this Sanctuary. It is a temporary home for wildlife, especially Orang Utan, which have been rescued from captivity or are orphaned. The animals are taught to learn back their natural environment for eventual release into the wild. Visitors can observe at close range the semi-wild orang utans that come to the feeding area. Spot their nests and their behaviour if you look for them in the forest. Return to Kuching in the late morning and be dropped off at the airport for your flight to Miri. Upon arrival in Miri, meet the driver at the airport for a transfer to the hotel.
Day 8 Miri - Ba'Kelalan
After breakfast, meet the driver for a transfer to the airport. Meet your guide on arrival at Ba’Kelalan airport. Check in to the lodge, not far from the airport and meet the locals. After lunch, the guide will take you on some treks in the surrounding area. Dinner and overnight is at a local lodge in the village.Day 9 Ba'Kelalan - Lepo Bunga - Church Camp
Enjoy your breakfast in the lodge. After breakfast, jump in a four-wheel drive car to Lepo Bunga. From here you will start trekking through primary rainforest. Many varieties of pitcher plants are found in this area, as well as wild orchids. The trek will take approximately four to five hours. Dinner will be cooked by your guide at the Base Camp, where you will also spend the night. The accommodation is basic.Day 10 Church Camp - Mt. Murud - Church Camp
After breakfast, you will start to ascend to the mighty summit of Mt. Murud, the highest mountain in Sarawak. The trek to the top of the mountain will take approximately three hours. The trail to the summit is littered with more pitcher plants and wild orchids. After a spectacular view and a packed lunch at the summit, you will descend to return to the Base Camp. Dinner and overnight at the camp.Day 11 Church Camp - Ba'Kelalan
After breakfast, descend all the way to your starting point: Ba’Kelalan. This trek will take approximately seven to eight hours. Upon arrival at the village, check in to the lodge and rest your feet while coffee, tea and dinner await you. Overnight at the village lodge.Day 12 Ba'Kelalan - Lawas
After breakfast, standby for your departure flight to the small town of Lawas. Upon arrival at Lawas Airport, meet the driver of the hotel van for transfer to the hotel. Check in to the hotel and relax. Spend the rest of the day free at leisure.
Day 13 Lawas - Long Pasia
After breakfast, a driver will pick you up for a transfer to Sipatang town for lunch. After lunch, proceed overland by 4WD to Long Pasia which takes about 4 hours over a logging road. Upon arrival at Long Pasia, you will be greeted by Mr. Nooh and his family. Check into the homestay and spend time free at leisure. In the late afternoon, take a village tour on foot with your host. Dinner is served and enjoyed together with the host-family. After dinner, the guide will brief you about the coming few days of jungle trekking.
Day 14 Long Pasia - Rekong Waterfall - Maga Camp
Wake up and breakfast. Begin your second day with start off into the jungle accompanied by Mr Nooh guide and porter. Start trekking from Long Pasia village interesting trek where you will experience river crossings, hanging bridges and virgin jungle. Enjoy Lunch once reaching Rekong Waterfall. Continue trekking for another 3-4 hours before reach Maga camp site.Along the way, Your guide will help you collect any edible plants or jungle fruits along the way which you can cook along with dinner in the evening. Upon arrival free at leisure to explore area and large waterfalls. After dinner, Free at leisure.
Day 15 Maga Campsite
Wake up and have breakfast in the camp. Spend the whole day trekking around the camp in search of the many waterfalls that are found in this area. Explore the surroundings and spend time with the guide learning about the jungle. Enjoy a lunch enroute before heading back to the campsite. Dinner and overnight at the camp site.
Day 16 Maga Campsite - Long Pasia - Kota Kinabalu
Wake up and have breakfast in the camp. Pack up your gear and trek back to Long Pasia. Upon arrival at the village, enjoy some light refreshments. Say goodbye to your hosts and make your way back to Sipitang by 4WD. From Sipitang, have a transfer to Kota Kinabalu. Drop off at the hotel or airport.
